SAN FRANCISCO, 1/19/2024 -
LCA Live, The Arts at SF State, is thrilled to announce their upcoming collaboration with Electric Root, to kick-off the second half of the 23-24 season with The Sound of (Black) Music, the concert experience.
The hills are alive with the sound of Black music! Experience the songs from one of the most beloved American musical classics as reimagined through an Afrofuturistic lens, led by a dynamic group of musicians and vocalists, including Brianna Thomas, Chareene Wade, Vuyo Sotashe, and more.
The uplifting spirit of Black roots music ripples through this production, curated by jazz vocalist Michael Mwenso and producer Jono Gasparro in association with Electric Root. Conceived as a central production within a platform to create a creative healing space for a troupe of predominantly BIPOC artists. Come experience the contagious feeling of joy and unite in community with others.
The Sound of (Black) Music is set for a one-night only performance on February 29th, 2024, at 7pm PST in the McKenna Theatre in the Creative Arts Building at San Francisco State University. This electrifying act sets the stage for a spring bursting with creativity and innovation.
This event will be presented with a transformative conversation led by Electric Root for SF State students about community healing through music. This session will empower students to create nurturing spaces for communal healing and to use the power of music to unite communities and spread joy and healing.
This performance is free for the first 100 students, faculty, and staff. The greater San Francisco Bay Area Community is welcome and encouraged to attend, with tickets set at a reasonable price of $20 per ticket, embodying the LCA Live mission to make art accessible.
